Akeelah and the Bee

Are you good enough to spell a word?

 

I really enjoyed watching Akeelah and the bee because of its value about how can a person gain Excellence with the help of other people. This movie was all about a young girl named Akeelah who was good in spelling and one of the top students in English class. But after her class, she was used to be bullied by other students. She was encouraged by her teacher to join the spelling bee in the school. At first, she didn’t want to participate but then she later decided to join in. Akeelah had greatly spelled all the words in the contest. Then an expert professor suddenly challenged her to spell difficult words which made Akeelah’s adviser shocked. She told the professor that Akeelah was just a child and she couldn’t spell those words but as Akeelah spelled them perfectly, they were all amazed until the last word which was difficult for Akeelah to spell out. Akeelah was very disappointed. She was encouraged by her teachers to join the international spelling contest but she didn’t want it because she didn’t believe of herself. Akeelah was finally made of her mind and got an interest to join the contest so she sought the professor’s house. At first they didn’t want each other because of their first bad impression with each other. Akeelah apologized to him because of her rude behavior and they made some agreements with each other. They practiced many things about how to improve her spelling skills. They studied they origin, epistemology and so on. But her mother was against to Akeelah in joining the contest. Until she was finally convinced on how talented her daughter is. Akeelah found a friend in the contest named Dylan who has strict parents who didn’t want him to lose the contest. Akeelah want him to be happy and enjoy the contest. They both tried their very best until the last difficult word that will declare their victory. At the end of the movie, they both won the spelling contest. Akeelah realized that it is not all about winning the contest but to achieve your goal with the best as you can with the help of other people without hurting anyone.
